Welcome back!

To our Chaffey-Burke Families,

I would like to welcome you back for the 2023 – 2024 School year. As always, I am excited for the start of a new year and all the possibility it brings.

If your child started the school year with us last year, you know that the first week of school looks very different than the rest of the year. The information below is for three different groups of students; those who are returning, those who are new to the school (not including kindergarten students), and our new kindergartners.

  1. Students who attended Chaffey-Burke last year are asked to return to their last year’s classroom by lining up at the same place as they are used to. These students will attend from 9:00 – 10:00 only.
  2. Students who are new to our school will meet at the front of the school at 9:10 and both students and parents will be brought into the gym to meet some of our staff and to take get you ready for the rest of the week. We plan on being done by 10 AM as well.
  3. Our new kindergarten students will have already received an email and have been assigned into one of two cohorts for a information session that will either take place at 10:30 for cohort 1 and at 1:00 for cohort 2.

Wednesday morning, students will return to their last year’s class, but will be relocated to grade groupings in a new classroom for the rest of the week. Our new students will return to the gym to start and will be moved into grade group classes at the start of the day. Thursday and Friday mornings, all students will start the day in this new class.

Wednesday through Friday, all students, except kindergarteners, will follow the regular bell schedule which has a first bell at 8:52 and a dismissal time of 2:55.

Our new kindergarten students will follow the gradual entry schedule that was sent to families. If you did not receive one you will get tone on Tuesday morning at the information session.

Please remind your child that the teacher they are with next week will likely not be their teacher for the year. We hope to have our new classes set by the end of the week so we can move into our new classes on Monday morning. This decision will be dictated by the school district as there are district wide rules that need to be followed.

I am looking forward to the school year and I hope your children are excited too.

We will see you next week,

Jeff Hutton
