Hello to all of our Chaffey-Burke families,
Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year. As is the case at the start of every school year, this first week is at time to reconnect, get settled and to organize the school.
We would like to welcome many new staff members this year as we have a number of staff members who have moved on to new adventures such as teaching or living overseas, retirement or just moving to an new school or school district.
The week starts with a short day on Tuesday, September 3 when the students attend form 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM only. This is an important day so that we can determine how many of our students have moved and will not be attending Chaffey. We have had more than thirty students register over the summer, so it is important that we learn of all students who have left. If you are receiving this email, but do not plan on attending Chaffey this year please contact Ms. Sanders by email at Antonella.sanders@burnabyschools.ca to inform us.
Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday are regular school hours of 8:52 – 2:55. Please send your child with a snack, their lunch, and a water bottle.
Students will start each day this week with their class from last year and in most cases, in the same room although there are a few changes. Please line up where you did last year and people will be available to direct your child, if they are in a different location for this week.
As the week progresses, we will have a more solid idea of our numbers and we will solidify our classes. The hope is for all our students to be in their classes for the year on Monday, September 9, but we will keep you informed as we get closer.
For this week our new grade 1 students will be with a mix of our non-enrolling staff and their teacher from last year with Ms. Barasic returning and will have the students from Ms. Gianonne’s class.
Students who are in grades 2 – 4 this year will be with their teacher from last year for the week except for the following teachers:
Ms. Ha’s class will be in the same room, but with Ms. Chang
Ms. Lee’s class will be in the same room, but with Ms. Beatovic
Ms. E. Nielsen’s class will be in the same room, but with Ms. Abdi
Ms. Goncalves class will be with Ms. Strutt in room 16
Ms. Strutt’s class will be in the same room, but with Ms. Mora (welcome back!)
Mr. Byun class will stay with Mr. Byun but in room 29
Our students in grades 5, 6, & 7 will start each day in their old room with their teacher from last year (unless they have left) but will be moved into grade groupings for the first week to help create more connections and a sense of community for everyone.
The changes for these students are:
Ms. Delikatny’s class will be in Portable 2 with Mr. Martin
Ms. Cheng’s class will be in the same room, but with Mr. Spence
Ms. Schulze’s class will be in Portable 1 with Ms. Knowlan
Ms. Marchese’s class will be with her again, but in room 19
We are asking that all students who are new to Chaffey this year go to the gym at 9:10 AM. Please enter through the doors behind the gym in the undercover area.
We understand that this week can be a little daunting for students, particularly those not with their teacher from last year or those who are in a new room, but we will make things as light and enjoyable as possible until we are able to make the shift to this year’s classes.
