Registration for the 2026-27 School Year

February is registration month in Burnaby.  Families are encouraged to register their children this month for the next school year. This is for only new students only.  Students currently registered and planning on staying at a Burnaby School do not need to re-register for the next school year.

Students register at the school within the designated attendance area where the student ordinarily resides or make application to attend another school or educational program within the district.  The school locator can help you determine the attendance area your address is associated with.

To review general registration information, registration information specific to your child including kindergarten students, students new to the district, student transfers (cross district and out-of-district), students going into grade 8, newcomers to Canada, International students or language program options, or review the factors and priorities that determine a student’s placement in a Burnaby school.  For the 2026-27 school year, all registrations will be done online.  You will be redirected to the district websites registration page by clicking here.  Please note: Registration opens up on February 2nd at 10:00 AM.  The website is currently only for informational purposes.

Registration Documentation

With your application, you will need to submit:

• Birth Certificate or Proof of birth date for the student
• Proof of guardianship
• Proof of citizenship for both the parent and child
• Emergency contact information
• Name and telephone number of the family doctor or medical clinic
• Proof of residency showing the parent/guardian name.  This must include two items, at least one being from Category A below:

Category A: proof of ownership or long-term rental of dwelling, legal documents indicating      BC residence, Parent or guardian filing income tax returns as a BC resident

 Category B: BC Hydro bill, BC Cable bill, Provincial driver’s license, Provincial registration of automobile or Canadian bank accounts or credit cards

Cross District and Out-of-District

Burnaby residents wanting to attend a school in September that is not the school designated for their catchment area must submit a Cross-District Transfer Application to their desired school. Students living outside Burnaby can apply to attend a Burnaby school by submitting an Out-of-District Transfer Application to their desired school. This process will be completed via email.

The forms will be available on the for families to download and fill out from the school district registration page.  There will also be a list of email addresses for all schools to send the completed application. Please do not send the forms to the email addresses prior to February 2nd as they will not be accepted.  All students will be considered using the criteria below as long as the application is received by the end of the school day (3:30 pm) on February 27, 2026.  Please note the form does not need to be signed by the principal of the school the child is currently at as we are not having people come into the school.  It can be submitted without the signature this year.

Categories for Cross and Out of District Applicants in order by category are:

1. SIBLINGS:Siblings of continuing students in the school, including those in or accepted to district programs, whose residence falls outside the school’s attendance area.
2. LICENSED CHILDCARE:Students receiving before and/or after-school childcare at a licensed childcare facility within the school’s attendance area.
3. GRADE 7 PEER REQUEST:Grade 7 students, who attended an elementary school in their attendance area, which straddles the attendance area of TWO secondary schools, will be given priority for grade 8 enrolment in one of those two secondary schools.
4. CROSS-DISTRICT:Students not included in point 3 above, whose residence falls within the attendance areas of other Burnaby schools (cross-district transfers).
5. OUT-OF-DISTRICT:Students whose residence falls outside the Burnaby School District (out-of-district transfers).
